SK global chemical aims to create social value and contribute to a sustainable future
through 3R (Reduce/Replace/Recycle) activities.
Environmental issues caused by chemical products, such as plastic waste, are transnational challenges that should be resolved through
cooperation of various stakeholders in the value chain. SK global chemical will not only continue to develop 3R (Reduce/Replace/Recycle)-related
products and technologies based on its R&D capabilities but also take leadership in creating an eco-friendly platform across chemical industries
by establishing a consortium with various companies and organizations in the value chain.

‘‘Reduce’among the 3Rs means minimization.
We aim to reduce the consumption of plastics by developing materials that have equivalent performance
even with less amount. High crystallinity polypropylene (HCPP), which is well known as an eco-friendly product, can reduce plastic consumption by 10% compared to commodity products (polypropylene).
It can reduce the weight of a medium-size sedan by up to 10Kg, thereby improving fuel efficiency and
reducing pollutant emission. In addition, we will reduce the plastic consumption by sliming the existing multi-layer packaging films with our high performance resins while reducing energy consumption and pollutant emission through constant invest for eco-friendly manufacturing facilities.
‘Replace’ means substitution.
We aim to replace environmental pollutants and harmful substances with eco-friendly products.
To do so, we primarily decided to expand the production and sales of eco-friendly blowing agents and solvents. In particular, our eco-friendly blowing agents created KRW 44.2 billion of social value in 2018 by replacing Freon gas, a well-known greenhouse gas emission material. In addition, we will actively participate in R&D projects on eco-friendly low-toxic solvents and biodegradable products which can replace disposable plastics.

We aim to create a virtuous cycle of resources by developing materials that can be recycled easily
as well as technologies that recycles plastic and vinyl waste. SK global chemical has been progressing various projects related to recycling: developing materials design technologies for easy-recycling with the cooperation with food and distribution companies; developing lubricant containers using recycled resins; and developing asphalt supplements using vinyl waste. With these activities, we will lead in creating an ecosystem for recycling plastic waste.
